Orisons Fine Art and Framing is pleased to feature Cindy Gray’s complex images Her artwork is a pastiche inspired by the color and design of traditional Japanese dress. Gray appropriates 150 year old Japanese Ukiyo-e prints and texts to create her design motifs in contemporary media. Gray’s Southwest imagery draws from Aboriginal art, merging mezmerizing stippling with the colors associated with Southwest landscape and adobe.
Upstairs in the Gallery, the North Texas Printmakers Guild present a group show, with a special focus on their first print exchange. Printmaking is an often overlooked art. The NTPG promotes recognition and appreciation of fine art printmaking. Artwork available for purchase includes woodcut, monotype, aquatint and engraving. Demonstrations of printmaking techniques will be conducted through the evening. The NTPG’s print exchange will be offered on a silent auction benefiting CASA of Collin County.

MARK RENZ: PHOTOGRAPHS OF MEMORY AND PLACE

April 13th through May 6th
Orisons is pleased to exhibit the photography of Mark Renz. Renz’s conceptual artwork explores memories tied to loss and grieving. Layered and complex, they call for an engaged response. Other works focus on a sense of place through architecture and landscape. A native New Yorker, Renz studied architecture in Italy and Turkey prior to completing an MA in photography at Savannah College of Art and Design. Renz currently resides in Frisco, TX.
June 8th
Orisons presents new landscape and still life oil paintings by Texas artist Pete Quaid. These beautifully crafted images draw the viewer into the artist’s world of ranching narratives and Western vistas. Join us for a very special reception and meet the artist, June 8th (7p-10p).
July 13th
Brenda Brannon will be our featured artist. Brannon works in an impressionist mode, creating lyrical landscapes and animated city scenes. Earlier that day, Brannon will be painting live, demonstrating her techniques. Meet the Artist Reception, 7p-10p.
In the gallery space upstairs, Yenny Archbold will exhibit her imaginative imagery.
August 10th
The Gallery will be filled with beautiful photography, as we again host a Group Photography Show. Come into the gallery the week prior to vote on your favorite photographs. Then join us for the Second Saturday Reception (7p-10p) and congratulate the winners!
September 14th
Jeni Tomlinson and Bob Bruu will present an exhibit of their works based on settings in McKinney. Printmaker Lynne Hubner will exhibit her latest editions. Lynne is co-director of the North Texas Printmakers Guild.
October 12th
Three artists, each with a passion for color and design, will fill the gallery with their newest works. Susan Bishop, Annie Royer, and Logan Larsen will be the featured artists during this month’s Second Saturday. Upstairs, Orisons is pleased to exhibit recent works by Jim Wilson and Ted Cantrell. Join us in celebrating some amazing art work.

Leo Malboeuf, Stan Cobb, and the artists of the Sambataro Artist Critique Group will be exhibiting their work during this Second Saturday Reception.
New Workshop Schedule
Themed Critique Group
4 Saturday afternoons per semester
$180. per semester
Be part of a group of artists committed to produce 4 pieces of fine art (all media included) during a six month semester. Four themed critique sessions (with potluck meal and BYOB!!) during each semester will be led by Joe Sambataro, who will provide themes from which to choose 4-6 weeks prior. At the end of the semester a group exhibit will be held at Orisons. In the Spring, the group exhibit will be in conjunction with downtown McKinney’s art walk; in the Fall, it will be in conjunction with the McKinney Art Studio Tour in November.
New Workshop: Art Fix
Have a painting (or two) not turning out the way you had hoped? Bring them to Art Fix, where Master Artist Joe Sambataro will show you techniques that will not only help you improve your art, but also improve the way you see it!
This is a unique chance to have your artwork critiqued by an internationally published artist who has recently been selected as “Texas Best” for his series “Living in Color.” You will totally enjoy Sambataro’s positive skill lessons, and take with you valuable information that will give you a renewed confidence—guaranteed!

Beginning Digital Photography

So you have a brand new digital camera, with all the features, and you want to learn how to really use it. In this one day workshop, professional photographer Colin Kimball will take you through the basics of your camera. Because no two brands are exactly alike, there is time for individual attention as well as putting it all into practice. When registering, students should indicate the brand and model of digital camera that they will bring to the workshop.

Now that you have digital photographs on your computer, you need to know how to edit them, and prepare them to be printed. During this workshop, Colin will introduce the basics of Photoshop, and work with individuals on their projects. Students who have their own laptops loaded with Photoshop are encouraged to bring them.
Students may have their completed workshop images printed at Orisons at wholesale prices.
Intermediate Photoshop CS6 for Photographers

Jeremy Woodhouse has built his career as a travel photographer. He is his own photolab, and uses Photoshop extensively in creating saleable images. Participants should have a working knowledge of Photoshop and bring their laptop loaded with CS6. This workshop will be repeated monthly, with different topics covered every month. Participants may have their completed workshop images printed at Orisons at wholesale prices. For the serious photographer, Jeremy offers exotic photo tours. Please inquire.
Painting and Drawing
Downtown McKinney Painting Adventure

Would you like to learn how to draw and paint a downtown scene, complete with architectural perspective and details? Sounds ambitious, doesn’t it! Artist Jeni Tomlinson will walk the class through the process using of painting a street scene based, on a photograph, and help each student complete their own version during this very special two day workshop.
My Grandchild and Me

Bring an 8 x 10 photo of your grandchild, and learn to draw it in graphite or pastel. Portrait artist David Hobson will teach you the basics of drawing the human face, and some of the finer points of creating a likeness. Rather than a tight drawing, this will be an expression of your love for your beautiful grandchild.

Surrealism comes from deep inside your head. Artist Leo Malboeuf will help you use both sketchbook and computer (if the student can bring a laptop with some version of Photoshop or photo-editing software) to create surreal images. We have great fun with our imaginations, and a little weirdness.
Drawing for the Young at Heart

Can’t draw a straight line? You never have to! Artist Leo Malboeuf will take you on a journey to explore the basics of drawing, using a new part of your brain, while sipping a glass of wine.
About our instructors…
David Hobson has been drawing and painting the human form for decades. His commissioned portraits convey a remarkable likeness of his subjects, as well as an intense inner presence. David has a gift for encouraging students, and bringing the daunting task of drawing the human face down to manageable bite-sized portions for any experience level.
Colin Kimball is a professional photographer and works extensively with Photoshop to create his unique style of Legacy Portraits. Colin has the patience and experience to bring the novice to a new level of proficiency, both behind the lens and at the computer.
Leo Malboeuf has spent years studying, teaching, and perfecting his art. He works in oils and with digital images. Leo’s relaxed and humorous approach makes study under his tutelage an enjoyable experience for any age, any experience level.
Joe Sambataro is an internationally known artist, locally accessible. He has just been chosen to be among the top 5 artists in Texas. As distinguished as his career is, Joe is down to earth, and his art is inspiring.
Jeni Tomlinson is a professional artist dedicated to painting what she sees around her, be it her cat on a windowsill, or the downtown streets she calls home. Jeni looks forward to working with people of all experience levels to help them create paintings that are meaningful to them.
